Oat Milk Golden Milk
A simmered turmeric and ginger drink where oat milk's naturally sweet body stands in beautifully for the usual coconut milk base, without the heavy saturated fat.
By Aunesty Janssen · The Arrogant Hippie Culinary Journal: Oat Milk Edition
Ingredients
- 1.5 cups Oat Milk
- 1 tsp Ground Turmeric
- 1/2 tsp Fresh Ginger, grated
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 1 tsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tbsp Honey or Maple Syrup
Method
- Combine the oat milk, turmeric, ginger, and black pepper in a small saucepan.
- Warm gently over low heat, whisking continuously, for 4 to 5 minutes.
- Whisk in the coconut oil until fully melted and incorporated.
- Remove from heat and stir in the honey or maple syrup.
- Pour into a mug and serve warm.
Kitchen note
Keep this at a gentle simmer rather than a rolling boil. Oat milk's starches can turn slightly gluey if pushed too hard for too long, and a lower, steadier heat keeps the texture smooth.
