Oat Milk Caramel Sauce
Brown sugar and oat milk reduced into a sticky, dairy-free drizzle, leaning directly into oat milk's natural talent for browning and caramelization.
By Aunesty Janssen · The Arrogant Hippie Culinary Journal: Oat Milk Edition
Ingredients
- 1 cup Oat Milk
- 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
- 2 tbsp Vegan Butter
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- Pinch of Flaky Salt
Method
- Combine the oat milk and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar completely.
- Reduce heat slightly and simmer for 15 to 18 minutes, stirring occasionally, until noticeably thickened.
- Remove from heat and whisk in the vegan butter and vanilla until glossy.
- Cool slightly before serving; finish with a pinch of flaky salt.
Kitchen note
Oat milk's natural sugar content means this caramelizes faster than a version made with almond or soy milk, so keep an eye on it in the final five minutes rather than walking away.
