A deep, dark breakfast waffle using hemp milk for structural moisture, standing up to bold molasses and warming spice.
By Aunesty Janssen · The Arrogant Hippie Culinary Journal: Hemp Milk Edition
Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Ground Ginger
- 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Ground Cloves
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 1/4 cups Unsweetened Hemp Milk
- 1/3 cup Molasses
- 2 large Eggs
- 3 tbsp Melted Butter or Oil
Method
- Preheat a waffle iron. Whisk the flour, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt together.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the hemp milk, molasses, eggs, and melted butter until smooth.
- Fold the wet ingredients into the dry just until combined.
- Ladle batter onto the preheated waffle iron and cook according to manufacturer's instructions until deep golden and crisp.
- Serve warm with extra maple syrup or a dollop of whipped cream.
Kitchen note
Molasses and hemp milk are exactly the kind of bold, dark pairing that lets hemp milk's earthy note become an asset rather than something to disguise — don't lighten up the molasses to compensate.
