Salted Caramel Hemp Drizzle
Brown sugar and hemp milk reduced slowly into a sticky, dairy-free dessert sauce.
By Aunesty Janssen · The Arrogant Hippie Culinary Journal: Hemp Milk Edition
Ingredients
- 1 cup Brown Sugar
- 1 cup Unsweetened Hemp Milk
- 3 tbsp Butter
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 tsp Flaky Sea Salt
Method
- Combine the brown sugar, hemp milk, and butter in a heavy saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low.
- Simmer, stirring frequently, for 20 to 25 minutes, until thickened and deep amber.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla and sea salt.
- Cool slightly before serving warm, or cool completely and refrigerate; reheat gently before using.
Kitchen note
Hemp milk's stable fat structure means this caramel is less likely to separate during the reduction than a version made with a thinner plant milk — still stir frequently in the final few minutes, since the sugar itself can scorch regardless of the milk.
