Before you start
Why this recipe works
Hemp milk's earthy character naturally complements oats and maple. Slow simmering lets oat starch create creaminess while preserving a distinct grain texture.
Ingredient notes
- Use unsweetened hemp milk.
- Thick-cut oats need full cooking time.
- Dark maple stands up to hemp's nuttiness.
- Toast hemp hearts lightly.
Doneness cues
Grains should be tender but identifiable, with a soft wake left by a spoon.
Storage and reheating
Reheat gently with additional hemp milk or water until creamy again.
Kitchen note
Hemp milk's stable natural emulsion means you can simmer this longer than you would with a thinner milk without any risk of it splitting — let it go the full 10 minutes for the best texture.
