By Aunesty Janssen · The Arrogant Hippie Culinary Journal: Hemp Milk Edition
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1/3 cup Sugar
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- Zest of 1 Orange
- 1/2 cup Cold Butter, cubed
- 2/3 cup Dried Cranberries
- 3/4 cup Cold Unsweetened Hemp Milk
- 1 large Egg
- Extra Hemp Milk, for brushing
Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Whisk the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and orange zest together.
- Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, then stir in the dried cranberries.
- Whisk the hemp milk and egg together, then stir into the dry ingredients just until a shaggy dough forms.
- Pat into a circle, cut into 8 wedges, brush the tops with hemp milk, and bake 16 to 18 minutes until golden.
Kitchen note
The hemp milk brush on top is doing real work for color here — hemp milk's natural sugars and fat content help these scones brown more evenly than an egg wash alone would.
