Ingredients
- 1 cup very strong brewed coffee
- 1 cup camel milk
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground cardamom, or 4 pods lightly crushed
- 1 tbsp sugar, honey or date syrup, optional
Method
- For the cleanest cup, brew the cardamom with the coffee grounds rather than stirring powder into the finished drink.
- While the coffee brews, warm camel milk over medium-low heat until steaming but not boiling.
- Divide the strong hot coffee between two warmed cups.
- Add an equal amount of warm camel milk to each cup and stir gently.
- Taste the combined drink before sweetening; add sugar, honey or date syrup only if desired.
- Serve immediately while both coffee aroma and cardamom are vivid.
Cook with confidence
Before you start
Coffee Strength
The coffee must survive a one-to-one milk dilution. Brew stronger than ordinary drinking strength.
Cardamom
Freshly ground pods are brighter than pre-ground spice. Brewing with the grounds avoids sediment.
Sweeteners
Honey is floral, date syrup is caramel-like and white sugar stays neutral.
Brunch Service
Hold coffee in a thermal carafe and warm milk separately rather than holding the combined drink on heat.
Kitchen note
Adding the cardamom directly to the coffee grounds before brewing infuses more evenly than stirring ground cardamom into the finished liquid.
